Paul James, born on November 14, 1938, in Mountmellick, Co. Laois, Ireland, was the third of six children of John and Mary Payne. His childhood was filled with sports, where he excelled in hurling and Gaelic football, bringing honour to his town and county.

Moving to England at 20, Paul began a career in electrical engineering and later ventured into pub management with Ann, whom he married in 1975. Together, they built a thriving off-licence business in Woking, Surrey, and raised three children: Jonathan, Dominic, and Michaela.

Paul's warmth and charm endeared him to the community, earning him legendary status. He was known for captivating storytelling and an unwavering pride in his Irish roots.

Paul enjoyed his retirement with Ann spending cherished time with their children, and grandchildren, and creating lasting memories through family holidays and gatherings.

On April 4, 2024, following a courageous battle with Kidney Failure, Paul passed away at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and deep connections.

He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Rest in peace, Paul James Payne.
